Sister "Lotus" Shawls

 Budding Lotus

This shawl is knit up, in one go. This is a good pattern for a beginner knitter yet interesting enough for an experienced knitter. This shawl is charted, not written out. 

 Deze shawl wordt gebreid van onder naar boven in een stuk. Het is voor een beginner goed te doen. Er zijn alleen charts.

Pattern: Budding Lotus (available as pattern download and as a kit)

Yarn: Fine Merino Natural dyed Lace in Green and Blue (250m) each Renaissance Dyeing
Needle: 3mm or US 2,5

Size 160 cms x 48cms or 63 inches x 19 inches

Errata: in the instructions point 6 it states: work row 1-28. It should be: work row 1-30. The chart IS correct.

Lotus Chained

 This shawl is knit sideways in one piece. A one skein wonder!

 Deze shawl wordt in een keer gebreid; je begint bij de rechterpunt en breit naar de linkerpunt. Je hebt genoeg aan 1 streng garen!

The brown versions of Lotus Chained are knit with DyeForWool "Pumpkin"  Fingering weight BFL (one skein 400m/100gr)
The blue version of Lotus Chained is knit with DyeForYarn "Sloth in Procrastinator's Paradise" 100% silk laceweight.  

Laminaria...

Er was eens... Lang geleden een prachtig ontwerp gesignaleerd op Knitty.
Knitty was alom bekend om intrigerende ontwerpen en oog voor detail in projecten.

Gelukkig is het in al die jaren overeind gebleven, ook en waarschijnlijk voorál na het fenomeen dat Ravelry heet.
Elk kwartaal komen er nieuwe shawls uit, nieuwe trui- en sokontwerpen en nu ook speciale projecten voor handgesponnen garens.
Vooral omdat ik zelf NIET spin, en toch wel een probleem maak van het maken van een twééde sok, te lang ben voor een trui, focus ik me op de kant ontwerpen.

Once, there was... a long time ago a wonderfull design spotted on Knitty.
Knitty is a renowned location for intriguing designs and an eye for details in projects.

Luckily it survived all the years, including or despite the rise of Ravelry, a new phenomenon.
Each quarter of the year a new set of shawls, sweater and sock designs emerge, and recently even projects especially for handspun yarns.
Because I do NOT spin yarn myself, I suffer severely from Second Sock Syndrome and I'm to tall for a sweater I focus on the lace designs.

 En omdat nu na al die jaren, bijna iedereen de Laminaria wel kent, kan ik nu wegkomen met prachtige detail foto's.

 And because the Laminaria is now well known, I can get away with some awesome detailed photographs.

 Herkent u deze nog?? Want deze is eigenlijk niet nieuw. Hij was eerst lichtblauw! Maar omdat ik lekker aan het klooien was met logo's en deze al heel lang in mijn kast ligt, was het tijd voor deze make-over.

 Do you recognize this?? Because it isn't new at all. It was previously light blue. Iceblue to be exact. But when I started working on the new logo and saw that this was still in my home, it was in serious danger of a make-over.

Dus... tijd voor een nieuwe fotosessie en om de tijd te vullen. Ik ben andere projecten die al lang op de naalden staan aan het afmaken, en dat kan nog wel even duren.. 

 So.. time for a new photosession and a bit of a breather. I'm currently finishing other projects that have been on the needles tó long. And it might take longer...

Rare vorm .... Odd shape

Sinds dat ik de cursus Traditional Estonian Knitting heb gevolgd, en ik het boek heb (Haapsalu Sall) ben ik een beetje in de ban van de Nupp.
Er staan echt geweldige patronen in, en ik heb er al diverse gebreid:
Twin Pearls,Wild Lily,nog stééds bezig met de Garbo...
Ik was ook al eens begonnen met de Sofia Kiri, Crown Prince en Vesiroosikiri. Maar die zag ik niet meer afkomen dus weggelegd.

Ever since I had followed a class Traditional Estonian Knitting, and ever since I have the book (Haapsalu Sall) I am mesmerized by the Nupp.
The wonderfull patterns in the book already seduced me to make the Twin Pearls, the Wild Lily and am still working on the Garbo.
I also had started on the:
Sofia Kiri and the Crown Princeand Vesiroosikiri (squared). ... and still working on the Garbo.
With no end in sight I didn't finish those.

Het patroon van de Sofia kiri vond ik wel erg mooi, ik had alleen geen geschikt garen. Driehoekige sjaals komen niet vaak voor, ze staan tenminste niet in het Haapsalu Sall boek als zodanig. Omdat ik graag wat anders dan anders wil, heb ik na 4 pogingen het voor elkaar gekregen om hem in een driehoek te proppen en van onder naar boven de Sofia te breien.
The pattern of the Sofia Kiri stayed in my mind, I still wanted to knit that. I didn't have a suitable yarn yet, and because I wanted something else for a change, I decided to put it in a triangular shape. That's not very common in Estonian knitting. All the shawls in the book are rectangle or squared. I managed to get it into a triangle shape and I started knitting; from bottom to the top. .
Het garen?? Drops Kid-silk. Zelf geverfd. Want de kleuren die ik mooi vind, hebben ze niet. Donkergroen en diep grijs enz.
Omdat de strengen al paars waren geverfd met Kool Aid en ik niet zo'n goede verver ben, heeft de sjaal dus 3 'kleuren'.


The yarn?? Drops Kid-silk. I dyed it myself. Because they don't have the colourrange I like, I tried it myself. One skein was already dyed purple with Kool Aid, and because I'm not a good dyer, the shawl has now three shades.

Needle: 5 mm (!)
Start to finish: one week.

Colours Kleur

Weten jullie nog: ik had jullie laatst gevraagd hoe ik twee strengen naturel alpaca/silk/cashmere mooi kon verven, zonder Kool Aid. De strengen komen van deze site.

Het is gelukt!
Met verf van Landscape (hier verkrijgbaar) en verschillende technieken ben ik tot deze resultaten gekomen!

Do you remember I asked for some dyeing help recently? I wanted to dye 2 skeins of Angel Lace into greens and/or greys. You helped me quite a lot with the tip on the Landscape Dyes. The results are in! Look:

Yarn: Angel Lace (alpaca/silk/cashmere)
Skein: 1200 m / 1312 y
Dye: Landscape
Colours skein 1: Moss and Quarry
Colours skein 2: Currawong and Tarragon

Gebruikte techniek:
1. Streng gewassen met warm water en een uur laten staan.
2. streng uitgelegd op plastic
3. verfpoeder gemengt met water en een beetje azijn (voor de zijde, anders pakt dat niet).
4. Ik had 2 kleuren: groen en grijs en voor de andere streng: donkergroen en zwart
5. de streng in de lengte gekleurd, ik wil geen kleurbanen als bij sokken.
6. de ene streng meteen in de pan met heet water gelegd.
7. de andere streng gekleurd, maar omdat ik niet wilde dat die de andere streng te donker maakte, heb ik die in een appelmoespot gelegd en met het overtollige water aangevuld en in de pan gezet.
8. 30 minuten in de pan, langzaam af laten koelen, spoelen en drogen..

Used Technique:
To start I’ve soaked the yarn for over 1 hour, presses all the excess water out. Laid it down on plastic, mixed up the Landscape dye with water and some vinegar. 2 colours (green and grey/, dark green/black). Dyed the skeins lengthwise. The first I just tossed into the pan with the hot water. But because I was afraid that the colours would mix, I put the dyed skein into a glass yar with some exces water of the dye. The jar with the yarn lowered into the pan. Now it will be hot but not mix with the first skein!
Simmer for 30 minutes and then rinse with hot water, or wait for it to cool down and then rinse.
Hang up to dry and ball it all up.

ik had op Ravelry gelezen dat zij haar Rowan Kidsilk had geverfd, omdat de kleuren die ze had nooit zou gebruiken of dragen.
Nu had ik op de handwerkbeurs 'witte' kid-silk van Drops gekocht. Nix mis mee, maar niet wit genoeg. Dus de Kool Aid uit de kast gehaald en geprobeerd. Moet je kijken wat ik geverfd heb:

I'd seen her trials of dyeing Rowan Kidsilk on Ravelry, because she didn't like the colours she had in her stash...
Now, I'd bought some 'white' kidsilk from Drops on the Craftsfair last februari. Nothing wrong with it, but not quite white enough. So I pulled out the Kool aid from the cupboard and tried it. Look what I've got now: De groene is gemaakt met Lemon-Lime. Omdat ik te weinig vloeistof had is hij niet dekkend geworden, de wit is nog zichtbaar.
De paarse is gemaakt met BlackBerry, en ook die is niet helemaal dekkend geverfd door te weinig vloeistof. The green was made with Lemon Lime, because i didn't use enough liquid the colour didn't totally cover the yarn.
The same for the purple: Blackberry, not completely covered all the white.

Dat zijn 4 'nieuwe' bollen!
These are 4 'new' balls of yarn!
Edit: The purple isn't as purple on the ball, it's more like old pink. Very beautiful.
