Happy End Dress

Aller eerst een lesje hoe je een kraal in randje haakt met vaste steken. De kralen zijn van te voren op de draad geregen.

First a tutorial on how to crochet a pre-strung bead onto your project.
Start met het laatste lusje van de vorige steek.
Start with the last loop of the previous stitch
Voordat je de draad door de lus haalt, schuif je eerst een kraaltje naar rechts.
Before you pick up the yarn through the loop, you shove the bead to the right.
Dan maak je de steek voor de helft af. De lussen zitten nu aan de voorkant, de kraal aan de achterkant.
Then you finish half the stitch. The loops are in the front and the bead on the back of the work. Wanneer je de lus een beetje aantrekt, kan je met je vinger de kraal door het zelfde gaatje als de lus heen duwen en zijn de lussen en de kraal aan de voorkant van het werk.
When you pull a bit on the loops, you can push the bead through the same hole and you get the bead and both loops in front of the work.
Dan maak je de steek af en neemt de draad op, haalt hem door beide lussen heen, de kraal blijft nu op zijn plek aan de voorkant.
Then you pick up the yarn and finish the stitch. The bead will stay put on the front of the work.
Klaar! Je kan dit in elke steek doen, maar ik heb het om de 3 stk gedaan.
Done! You can do this on every stitch, but I did it every third stitch.

De jurk is nu eindelijk (weer) af. Hij is echt nog mooier dan de eerste.

Jammer genoeg geen zon, vandaar dat de foto's wat minder goed belicht zijn.

It was a perfect fit! Just as she had imagned it. She's happy and me too...

Truly a Happy End....

Silk Dress

Op een dag kreeg ik een mail of ik voor iemand een jurk kon breien! Nou, daar had ik wel zin in. Ze is langsgekomen en na overleg en meten was het alleen nog lang zoeken naar het juiste garen. Ze had ook een voorbeeld mee van wat ze mooi vond en de randjes van dat shirt zitten nu min of meer aan de jurk. Ook was het de bedoeling dat er over het jurkje blaadjes zouden 'vallen'. En er mochten kraaltjes in.
Uiteindelijk het garen gevonden, maar niet in de goede kleur. Het is uiteindelijk een bruine kleur geworden. Het garen van Lana Grossa is opgebouwd uit katoen, met daarom heen een microfiber en zijde laagje. Zo is het stevig (katoen) en glanst het (zijde). Het breide heerlijk, al ging het wel een paar keer fout. Omdat het helemaal op maat gemaakt is, had ik in het begin nogal wat problemen met de steekverhouding. Maar moet je zien hoe mooi! One day I got a mail from someone who wanted a knitted dress. Well, I really wanted to knit one, so we got together and talked things through. She wanted falling leafs, no lace, and had an example shirt with crochet-edging. Also she wanted beads.
The colour and type of yarn she wanted were unavailable, so we had to shift a bit and ended up with gorgeous brown Lana Grossa. It's made of a centre thread of cotton, wound with microfiber and silk.
I had to frog back quite a bit, the gauge was a huge problem in the beginning.

If you have no life.....

Wat gebeurt er als je niets te doen hebt.... (afgezien van kinderen halen en brengen, verzorgen, huishouden)?
Je plukt wat witte frambozen uit de moestuin, je naait een jurk voor je dochter, je breit verder aan de kantsjaal in Entrelac patroon met alle kantjes die je maar kan vinden, of je gaat alvast een paar lange sokken breien op je nieuwe bamboo naaldjes om te kijken of je snelgenoeg bent voor de sockwars. Ze zijn voor mijn zoon, die zit altijd te bibberen.

What happens if you have no life.... (besides from feeding and hauling children, caring, domestic things dó go on...)? You go to the vegetable garden and pick some white raspberries, you sow a little dress for your daughter, keep on knitting on the Entrelac shawl with all the lace patterns you can find, or try swatching for the up and comming Sockwars to see how fast you can knit a pair on your brandnew bamboo knittingsticks. These are for my son, some kneesocks, because he's always shivering....

Makin' it!

Ik heb een klein naaldentasje gemaakt van de japanse stof die ik van de week gekocht had. De ronde flapjes zijn met 2 zijdig plakvlies gestreken, en niet afgewerkt. Het midden is uit een stuk, gevuld met fiberfill en doorgestikt om makkelijker te vouwen.
I've made a little needle bag. The fabric is japanese, the filling is fiberfill only in the center part. The round flaps are just 2 fabrics glue-ed together with a layer of ironing fiber (???) and not sown. Hier onder nog een foto van de Rowan Kidsilk aura die ik ook had gekocht. Erg donkergroen, precies mijn kleur. De aura is 5/10 dikte, de Haze is 10/10 en dus dunner. Er zit minder op de bol en ik ben begonnen met een sjaal in Ostrich patroon. Bijna het zelfde als Feather and Fan, maar dan afwisselend.
Below a picture of the Rowan Kidsilk aura I bought. The aura is a bit thicker than the Haze, and was just my colour. Very dark green. I've started the Ostrich pattern with it, to knit a scarf.


Ostrich Plumes Pattern:
R1: *( s1, k1, psso) times 2, s1, k2, p2sso, (s1, k1, psso) times 2, (yo, k1) times 5, yo *repeat.
R2: purl all
R3: knit all
R4: purl all
Repeat R1-4 4 times then:
R17: * k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, (s1, k1, psso) times 2, (s1, k2, p2sso), (s1, k1, psso) times 2, yo, k1, yo * repeat.
R18: purl all
R19: knit all
R20: purl all
Repeat 17-20 4 times
Then repeat R 1-4 4 times and then R17-20 4 times untill desired lenght is reached.
Pay attention to the fact that the (s1, k2, p2sso) is always above the previous (s1, k2, p2sso).
That means that at the beginning of the row you have to count to see at which stitch you're at.
