Little Apples

Zo, het was wel even erg rustig op mijn blogje. Maar... dan komt er ook wat hè??

Vorig jaar heb ik al eens de Sofia Kiri gebreid. Zoals jullie gewend zijn, houd ik me zelden aan de (brei)regels en bij het maken van de Sofia dus ook.
De shawl stond in Haapsalu Sall in een rechthoekig patroon. Dus..
Wilde ik er een driehoekige shawl van maken.
Na veel geklooi lukte het me eindelijk om er een goede driehoek van te maken. Immers, de vormen zijn vierkant, maar zo brei je ze niet!Well, it's been quiet on my little blog for a whole month. But then you will get something good...

Last year I had knitted the Sofia shawl. I'm known for breaking some (knitting) rules, which I continued with the Sofia. In the Haapsalu Sall book it is displayed in a rectangled shape. So...
I wanted to knit it in a triangle.
That isn't as easy as it looks, the pattern is squared but that is nót what you knit.
Het garen is bij de Sofia een beetje somber en aangezien het bijna lente is, had ik zin om het opnieuw te doen maar dan in fris groen.

The yarn of the Sofia is a bit gloomy, and with the upcoming spring I wanted to knit something fresh and cheerfull.

Wolhemel

Als ik jou was, zou ik nog SNEL wat bestellen bij Wolhemel! Het gaat zo hard met de voorraad.
Ongelooflijk dat ze er mee ophouden.
Ik had al wat alpaca besteld, en safran in lichtblauw en licht groen. Maar toch ook nog maar 4 bollen kidsilk in appelgroen gekocht. Nu kan het nog! If I were you I'd order me some yarn at the Wolhemel. While you can! It's stock is going out fast. I had ordered some alpaca and safran in light blue and light green. But later also ordered 4 balls of applegreen kidsilk. Ik heb veel te danken aan de Wolhemel. Ik mocht diverse garens uitproberen, modellen breien voor de Wolhemel shop of de Handwerkbeurs. Ik ga Angelique en Marina als zodanig wel missen. I've got a lot to thank for with Wolhemel. They've let me try out several yarns, patterns, designs. Also for the Wolhemel shop or for craft shows. I'll miss them as such, a lot.

Rare vorm .... Odd shape

Sinds dat ik de cursus Traditional Estonian Knitting heb gevolgd, en ik het boek heb (Haapsalu Sall) ben ik een beetje in de ban van de Nupp.
Er staan echt geweldige patronen in, en ik heb er al diverse gebreid:
Twin Pearls,Wild Lily,nog stééds bezig met de Garbo...
Ik was ook al eens begonnen met de Sofia Kiri, Crown Prince en Vesiroosikiri. Maar die zag ik niet meer afkomen dus weggelegd.

Ever since I had followed a class Traditional Estonian Knitting, and ever since I have the book (Haapsalu Sall) I am mesmerized by the Nupp.
The wonderfull patterns in the book already seduced me to make the Twin Pearls, the Wild Lily and am still working on the Garbo.
I also had started on the:
Sofia Kiri and the Crown Princeand Vesiroosikiri (squared). ... and still working on the Garbo.
With no end in sight I didn't finish those.

Het patroon van de Sofia kiri vond ik wel erg mooi, ik had alleen geen geschikt garen. Driehoekige sjaals komen niet vaak voor, ze staan tenminste niet in het Haapsalu Sall boek als zodanig. Omdat ik graag wat anders dan anders wil, heb ik na 4 pogingen het voor elkaar gekregen om hem in een driehoek te proppen en van onder naar boven de Sofia te breien.
The pattern of the Sofia Kiri stayed in my mind, I still wanted to knit that. I didn't have a suitable yarn yet, and because I wanted something else for a change, I decided to put it in a triangular shape. That's not very common in Estonian knitting. All the shawls in the book are rectangle or squared. I managed to get it into a triangle shape and I started knitting; from bottom to the top. .
Het garen?? Drops Kid-silk. Zelf geverfd. Want de kleuren die ik mooi vind, hebben ze niet. Donkergroen en diep grijs enz.
Omdat de strengen al paars waren geverfd met Kool Aid en ik niet zo'n goede verver ben, heeft de sjaal dus 3 'kleuren'.


The yarn?? Drops Kid-silk. I dyed it myself. Because they don't have the colourrange I like, I tried it myself. One skein was already dyed purple with Kool Aid, and because I'm not a good dyer, the shawl has now three shades.

Warm... Hot

Het is warm.
ik heb het warm. heel erg warm. Vooral na het werk; lopen met de post is niet zo erg, maar je wordt er warm van en met de hitte buiten kan je die gewoon amper kwijt!
Dus duik ik nu meestal ná m'n werk even in het zwembadje in de achtertuin. Drie-en-een-halve-kuub-water-met-chloor ter verfrissing.
HEERLIJK!

's Avonds wordt er natuurlijk gewoon gebreidt. Ik heb een paar losse bollen kidsilk (drops) die ik nog over had van diverse projecten op een kluitje gegooid en geverfd. Ik vind het garen best mooi, maar ze leveren zelden 'mijn' kleur. Dan doe ik het dus zelf maar.

It's hot.
I'm hot. Very hot. Overheated. Especially after my rounds. Walking isn't that bad, but my body gets warm and with this heatwave I can hardly cool down.
So, after work I take a little dip in my tiny swimmingpool in the back yard. 924 gallons of water to refresh me.
In the evening there will be some knitting done. I've dyed some spare ends of Kid-silk (drops) I had left from some other projects. I like the yarn, but they don't have 'my' colours. So I did it myself.

Old new Trick

Iedereen weet dat ik kan lace breien. Dat vind ik ook het leukst om te doen.
Maar ik kan veel meer. Vroeger met name breide ik veel truien met acryl van de Hema. Meer kon ik niet betalen. Maar omdat het zo goedkoop was en er op die enorme bollen heel veel garen zat, kon ik vaak wel lekker dóór breien.
Everyone knows I can knit lace. That's what I like to do most. But I can do more. Especially in the old days I knitted a lot of sweaters. The acrylic yarn came from a national store and was cheap and lots of yards on the ball. I could knit the night away with that.
Na mijn dip van de vorige maand heb ik nu ineens een vesten virus. Het begon na het breien van deze korte bolero in kidsilk. (drops patroon) Die was niet voor mij, dat vond ik eigenlijk wel jammer. Nu ben ik dus druk bezig met het swatchen van garens en patronen om iets voor mezelf te breien.
Resultaat; een pentagon voor de Cabled Bolero en het rugpand voor de Korte Tilted Duster. (allebei ontwerpen van Norah Gaughan) After the low of last month I'm suddenly 'down' with a new virus: the cardigan bug. This happened after I had finished the short bolero in the picture above. So now I'm quite busy with swatching yarn and patterns.

Na een gesprekje met haar, over dingen die je vroeger breide (pre-Ravelry) hier het bewijs van mijn brei'kwaliteiten' van vroeger. Eigen ontwerp. Deze trui is al 18 jaar oud, dank zij de acryl nog steeds draagbaar. hihi.
And after a little conversation with her, I'd like you to show the 'evidence' of my knitting from about 18 years ago. My own design! Due to the acrylic yarn; still wearable!
Helaas door de acryl ook veels te groot, en de mouwen hebben losse zomen.
Due to the acrylic yarn it's way to big now, and the sleeves have holes because the seems have gone.

Overgave

Na een lange strijd geef ik het op. Kid-silk was nou niet bepaald mijn favoriete garen, als ik eerlijk ben.
Niet te min geeft het prachtige resultaten en het breit ook best wel lekker. Maar op een of andere manier stribbelde ik zelf altijd tegen. After a long fight I give in. Kid-silk wasn't my favorite type of yarn to knit with. To be honest. In the mean time it makes beautiful projects and knitting it isn't to bad either. One way of the other I managed to struggle with it. Nu heb ik m'n 9e project met kid-silk af en nu ben ik eindelijk 'om'. Wat een prachtig resultaat!
Now I've finished my 9th project with kid-silk and I finally will give in. What an amazing result!
Deze sjaal is voor mijn oma. Zij kreeg mijn eerste kantsjaal; de Zetor. De punten vond ze niet zo handig en ze aasde al een beetje op de South Sea Stole van mijn moeder. Toen mijn moeder laatst met de Endless binnen kwam lopen was het klaar. Zij wilde ook een rechte sjaal, zonder punten in dát garen. Ze wordt binnenkort 90 jaar, en dan krijgt ze deze. Die vind ze vast mooi! This shawl will be for my grandmother. She was the one who recieved my first lace shawl; the Zetor. She did wear it often, but found the points not so handy. Then she saw my mothers South Sea Stole and liked that one so much, she sweet talked my mother almost out of it.
When my mother visited her recently with the Endless shawl, that was it! She wanted a rectangled too! She'll be 90 soon, this will be her birthday present... I think she'll be pleased.

Ravelympics

Posh yarn Cecilia Sumptuous, cashmere/silk, 1300 y part of a yarn swap, this is what I got!!!

De eerste week van Ravelympics is bijna voorbij. Ik kon best veel breien maar dagelijkse bezigheden zorgden er toch voor dat er minder tijd overbleef dan ik had gehoopt.

First week of Ravelympics are almost done. Did a lot of knitting, but daily life has caught up with me and left me less time then I had imagned.

Dit is mijn bijdrage voor Team Fryslân Boppe! In grijze kidsilk van Drops een prachtig patroon wat met 5 mm naald lekker opschiet. Er zullen 3 bollen opgebreidt worden.
This will be my entry for Team Fryslân Boppe! In grey kidsilk by Drops with a beautiful pattern that knits up pretty quick with 5 mm /no 8 needles. 3 balls will be knit in this pattern.

Voor Team ColourMart maak ik een eigen ontwerp wat een beetje ten onder gaat aan het mooie patroon. Vooral aan de achterkant is het een aan een schakeling van losse rechte en averechte steken. Het is niet erg, maar vertraagd wel. Hoe dit afloopt weet ik dus nog niet.
For Team ColourMart I'm knitting my own design; it's drowning a bit in an ocean of knit and purl stitches on the wrong side. It's very pretty, but also hard work. I don't mind but it slows me down more then I had expected.
Ik heb in dit patroon wat hartjes toegevoegd en deze sjaal heet dan ook : Love 'n' Kisses.
De kruisjes zijn de kusjes en de hartjes de liefde. Het is een driehoekige sjaal van onder naar boven gebreidt vanuit 1 steek.

I've added some lace hearts and this shawl will be called: Love 'n' Kisses.
The x's are the kisses and the little lace hearts will represent the Lóve! It is a triangular shape knit up from 1 stitch.

Voor dit patroon gebruik ik ColourMart 1/15 NM Cashmere/Merino Ombre Rose op 2,5 mm.

Endless

Vorig jaar mocht ik voor Wolhemel de Iris breien. Een prachtige rode sjaal in kidsilk van Drops. Toen ik daar mee bezig was, had mijn moeder al gezegd dat ze het wel een erg mooie sjaal vond en ze is al weg van rood.. Ik heb toen nieuwe bollen gehaald en ben een keer begonnen in de zomer. Ik wilde niet helemaal dezelfde breien, ik begon met een patroon uit Victorian Lace Today. Maar ik had er al gauw genoeg van. Ik heb op Ravelry gespeurd, het stuk weer uitgehaald en begonnen met de Wedding Ring Shawl uit Handwerken zonder Grenzen. Na 4 blokken had ik geen zin meer en ben met het ruitje van de Iris sjaal begonnen. Dat ging al wat sneller. Ik heb maar 3 bollen, dus na 13 herhalingen van het ruitje toch maar weer een rand gedaan in het eerste patroon. En ... klaar!
Ze is er erg blij mee. Last year I was assigned a shawl to knit for Wolhemel, the Iris. This beautiful red shawl in kid-silk by Drops, was very pretty in the eyes of my mother. She lóves red.. So, I bought some new balls and started of with a pattern from Victorian Lace Today. But I was soon fed up with it. Searched on Ravelry, frogged the bit I had already knitted and started on the Wedding Ring Shawl. After 4 repeats I was having enough of that too, so continued to knit some little diamonds, like in the Iris shawl. That knitted up pretty quick. I ended again with 4 repeats of the Wedding pattern, with only 3 balls it couldn't get much larger. No edging and bound off.

Nieuwe shawl

Ik mocht voor Wolhemel een sjaal breien voor de handwerkbeurs van februari in Zwolle. Het is een Drops patroon en mede door het garen een groot plezier om te breien. Het patroon is beschikbaar via Garnstudio en het garen dus bij Wolhemel.

En hier alvast een voorproefje van een andere sjaal die BIJNA af is. Het is een eigen ontwerp en ik kwam zo'n 10 meter te kort om het laatste hoekje te breien. Ik wacht dus nu nog op extra garen uit Amerika om het af te maken. Meer hierover zodra hij klaar is...
And here a little preview of another shawl that is ALMOST done. It's my own design and I ran out of yarn about 12 yards short for the last corner. I'm waiting for yarn to arrive from America to complete it. More to come later...

Kleur

Hoi,

ik had op Ravelry gelezen dat zij haar Rowan Kidsilk had geverfd, omdat de kleuren die ze had nooit zou gebruiken of dragen.
Nu had ik op de handwerkbeurs 'witte' kid-silk van Drops gekocht. Nix mis mee, maar niet wit genoeg. Dus de Kool Aid uit de kast gehaald en geprobeerd. Moet je kijken wat ik geverfd heb:

I'd seen her trials of dyeing Rowan Kidsilk on Ravelry, because she didn't like the colours she had in her stash...
Now, I'd bought some 'white' kidsilk from Drops on the Craftsfair last februari. Nothing wrong with it, but not quite white enough. So I pulled out the Kool aid from the cupboard and tried it. Look what I've got now: De groene is gemaakt met Lemon-Lime. Omdat ik te weinig vloeistof had is hij niet dekkend geworden, de wit is nog zichtbaar.
De paarse is gemaakt met BlackBerry, en ook die is niet helemaal dekkend geverfd door te weinig vloeistof. The green was made with Lemon Lime, because i didn't use enough liquid the colour didn't totally cover the yarn.
The same for the purple: Blackberry, not completely covered all the white.

Dat zijn 4 'nieuwe' bollen!

Edit: The purple isn't as purple on the ball, it's more like old pink. Very beautiful.

Quick Knit

Ik ben nu druk bezig met het opzetten van een aanpak hoe en wat ik wil gaan doen met mijn website/werk. Beetje laat misschien, maar ik ben heel wat van plan.
Mijn eerste doel is dat ik een stand krijg op de trouwbeurs hier in het dorp. Ik ben druk bezig met allerlei patronen en sjaals te breien als voorbeeld. De beurs is in november, dus ik heb nog effe.
Ondertussen heb ik me aangemeld bij diverse websites, en de meest belangrijke is die op deze, onder het kopje van Online Winkelen.

Als ik die stand heb moet ik natuurlijk wel laten zien wat ik kan. En na flink informatie te hebben ingewonnen is het slim om veel kleine dingen te maken die mensen metéen kunnen kopen en de sjaals als voorbeeld te laten.
Op Ravelry was iemand met enorme goede tips daarover.
(effe een plaatje om het luchtig te houden...)

Ik ga dus de komende tijd kleine kanten tasjes breien, ringkussentjes, handschoentjes (?) en nog meer sjaals.

I'm quite busy building a kind of business plan for my website. It will have a lot to do with weddingstuff. There will be a wedding-fair in my little town and I want in on that. I'll have to knit a lot of little things for people to buy immediately, and shawls to show.

That's Purity, isn't she beautiful? The pictures are quite 'white' but in real life, the white ain't that white.

Eindelijk klaar.

In november '08 had ik een post met gezegdes: Something old, something blue, something borrowed, something new.
We zijn een mooi tijdje verder, maar ik heb nog maar 2 van de 4 projecten af.
"Something old" is nu eindelijk af. Hij was erg lang op 95%, omdat ik niet wist wat voor mouwen ik er in wilde. Ik ga hem aan mijn schoonzus geven. Ze is gehandicapt, en omdat deze spencer geen zomen heeft, is hij erg flexibel en makkelijk aan te trekken. Ze is zaterdag jarig, dan krijgt ze hem. Hopelijk vind ze hem mooi.Patroon: Frost Vest

Ik had hem origineel gebreid voor Sean's juf, maar daar heb ik wat anders voor gebreid. Het lijkt me nu een uitstekend kadoo voor mijn schoonmoeder. Geel is wel haar kleur.

In this blog I've used a proverb to add to the pictures: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...
The old project (because the yarn has been lying around for more then a year) is now done and ready for my SIL. She's fysically challenged and the no-seams will be good for stretch to put it on.
The Honeybee will be for her mother, my MIL. Hope they both like my work.
