Summer Breeze...

In een korte tijd heb ik veel af gemaakt, en deze ligt al een tijdje.
Het is een verhaal apart. Het garen is van Storm op Zolder en zat in een goodiebag op de Stitch'n'Bitch dag (2008...)
Ik ben begonnen met het breien van de Aeolian (Knitty 2009) maar na het breien van het tweede patroonblok vond ik er niets meer aan. Het garen is zonnig en licht, en ik wilde ook een luchtig patroon met ronde vormen.
De sjaal heeft een hele lange pauze gehad en toen is het de Haruni geworden. Véél beter. Kijk maar... In a short while I finished a lot of projects. This one has been laying around for a while now.
And what a story... The yarn is from Storm in the Attic and was part of a goodiebag. (2008..)
I started knitting the Aeolian with it, but didn't like the look of the second pattern block. The yarn is so bright and airy, I wanted a rounded pattern.
The shawl got a long break and ended up being a Haruni. Much better now... as you can see.

Traditie / Tradition

Een tijdje terug, in april, heb ik een cursus Traditioneel Estlands breien gevolgd bij Wolhemel. De cursus werd gegeven door The Dutch Knitters; Carla en Hilly.
Ik had deze sjaal toen al op de pennen maar was erg nieuwsgierig of het me zou lukken om deze sjaal op een traditionele manier in elkaar te zetten.
A while back, I took a class Traditional Estonian Knitting at Wolhemel. The Class was taught by The Dutch Knitters; Carla and Hilly.
This shawl was already on the needles and I was curious to see if I could do it; construct this shawl in the traditional way.

Het garen is geweldig. Ik heb dit een keer geruild voor wat garen dat ik ook al geruild had. Het is Posh garen, de kleur Sumptuous. Het is niet meer in roulatie.

The yarn is gorgeous; I've traded it for some other yarn I had traded. It's Posh Yarn, the colour Sumptuous. (Cashmere/silk 1/12 NM). It is discontinued.

Er zitten totaal zo'n 778 nupps in, en ruim 120 kralen.
There's a total of 778 nupps in it, and over a 120 beads.

De rand is dus apart gebreidt en met de hand aangenaaid. Een hele klus, maar traditie, en wel erg mooi. Je krijgt een open en luchtig randje tussen de body en de rand. Dat krijg je niet wanneer je steken oppakt en de rand aanbreidt. De rand is dan ook veel ruimer en wordt gebreidt in 2 delen.
The edging is knit separately and sown on by hand. Quite a task, but it's tradition and very pretty. You get an open and airy part between the body of the shawl and the edging. When you knit the edging on, you don't get that. The edging is also knitted in two parts and longer then neccesary.

De sjaal is voor m'n tante. Ze is er erg blij mee. Misschien binnenkort een foto dat ze hem om heeft. Haar dochter is fotografe, dus dat gaat vast lukken.
This shawl is for my aunt. She's very happy with it. Soon maybe a picture while she's wearing it, her daughter is a photographer so that will be alright.

Yasmin

A new design by Wolhemel, it will be available on their site soon . I had the honor to name this lace shawl, and I was inspired by the rich colour and the name of the yarn. Pattern: Yasmin

Guilty

Schuldig.
Soms voel ik me een beetje schuldig. Het 'probleem' is dat in de loop van de tijd is gebleken dat ik erg vaak iets leuks zie en het dan ná ga maken. Dat gaat me goed af. En dat kan op allerlei gebied zijn; naaien, tekenen, haken en breien o.a.
Sommige foto's zijn dan ook zo inspirerend dat ik het niet kan laten.
Zo vond iemand op Ravelry een schaarhoudertje. Toen ik het zag vond ik het geweldig; wat een leuk kadoo zou dat zijn voor moederdag. Het patroon had ik niet, maar ik ben 'zo handig' dat doe ik wel even.
En dit is het geworden; een leuk kadoo en een béétje schuldgevoel. Guilty.
Sometimes I feel guilty. The 'problem' is that in the last years I've developed a copycat habit. I see something that inspires me a lót and the next thing you know: I've made one too. It crosses many area's; crochet, sewing, drawing and knitting.
Someone on Ravelry found a scissorcase. I thought it would make a great Mothersday gift. I didn't have the pattern, but hé.. a little research and it was finished.

Heel raar, maar ik miste hem zo. Ik had hem eigenlijk voor mezelf gebreidt, het garen op eigen smaak uitgezocht (hier) en het viel niet mee hem kadoo te doen.
Toen ik het eindelijk in de gaten had dat ik hem 'terug' wilde hebben, heb ik heel lang op internet gezocht naar een soortgelijk garen. Of als het kon, dezelfde kleur.
Maar alles was op.
Very strange, but I missed the thing. It was supposed to be knitted for myself, the yarn (here). was bought to my taste. And it was pretty hard to gift away.
When it finally dawned on me I wanted it 'back', I searched a long time on the net for the same yarn, or at least the same colour But everyone was out.
De zoektocht kwam ten einde in mijn eigen stash. Ik had heel lang geleden eens 2 strengen geverfd en 1 kwam precies in aanmerking ervoor. Daarna nog gauw door mijn voorraad kralen en een combinatie gemaakt.
The search came to an end in my own stash. A long time ago I've dyed 2 skeins and one was perfect for this new project. A little trip through my beadscollection and a new combo was born.

Het garen heb ik Atmosphere Mist genoemd, en deze sjaal zal heten; Mist Fountains. Het waaier patroon in combinatie met de kralen zal als een fontein lijken.
The yarn is called Atmosphere Mist, and the shawl will be called; Mist Fountains, as the fan shapes at the end of the pattern will look like fountains with the beads.

The Second

Op een dag kreeg ik een opdracht van WereldWol. Of ik voor haar een sjaal wilde breien in Angel Lace van The Natural Dye Studio. Dat wilde ik wel.
Ze wilde graag de Laminaria gebreidt hebben. Dat kan natuurlijk. Daarmee is er wel iets gebeurd wat ik eigenlijk niet doe: een ontwerp twéé keer breien. Nu was mijn eerste sjaal sowieso al een beetje anders omdat ik toen 3 driehoeken heb gebreidt. Deze keer werd het het originele ontwerp in lichtblauw en lichtgroen.
One day I was asked to knit a shawl for WereldWol. It was to be done in Angel lace by The Natural Dye Studio. I was game.
The design she chose was the Laminaria. Ofcourse. That meant that I was about to knit a design for the second time, that is something I hardly ever do! The first time I had added another triangle, this time it would only be the original design. In light blue and light green.

Dit is een foto waarop de goede kleuren het beste te zien zijn. Ik heb de sjaal dubbel geblockt, zodat hij helemaal symetrisch is en het beste tot zijn recht komt.
Bovendien kan je op de eerste foto zien dat ik de tussen punten ook mee geblockt heb, zodat het open patroon ook beter te zien is.
This is a picture that is the best representation of the true colours. I've blocked the shawl double, so that it would be completely symetrical. Also I could block the points inbetween, as you can see better in the first picture. That way even the open worked lace is more visible.

Old new Trick

Iedereen weet dat ik kan lace breien. Dat vind ik ook het leukst om te doen.
Maar ik kan veel meer. Vroeger met name breide ik veel truien met acryl van de Hema. Meer kon ik niet betalen. Maar omdat het zo goedkoop was en er op die enorme bollen heel veel garen zat, kon ik vaak wel lekker dóór breien.
Everyone knows I can knit lace. That's what I like to do most. But I can do more. Especially in the old days I knitted a lot of sweaters. The acrylic yarn came from a national store and was cheap and lots of yards on the ball. I could knit the night away with that.
Na mijn dip van de vorige maand heb ik nu ineens een vesten virus. Het begon na het breien van deze korte bolero in kidsilk. (drops patroon) Die was niet voor mij, dat vond ik eigenlijk wel jammer. Nu ben ik dus druk bezig met het swatchen van garens en patronen om iets voor mezelf te breien.
Resultaat; een pentagon voor de Cabled Bolero en het rugpand voor de Korte Tilted Duster. (allebei ontwerpen van Norah Gaughan) After the low of last month I'm suddenly 'down' with a new virus: the cardigan bug. This happened after I had finished the short bolero in the picture above. So now I'm quite busy with swatching yarn and patterns.
Results: a pentagon for the Cabled Bolero and the almost finished back for the Cropped Tilted Duster. (both designed by Norah Gaughan)
Na een gesprekje met haar, over dingen die je vroeger breide (pre-Ravelry) hier het bewijs van mijn brei'kwaliteiten' van vroeger. Eigen ontwerp. Deze trui is al 18 jaar oud, dank zij de acryl nog steeds draagbaar. hihi.
And after a little conversation with her, I'd like you to show the 'evidence' of my knitting from about 18 years ago. My own design! Due to the acrylic yarn; still wearable!
Helaas door de acryl ook veels te groot, en de mouwen hebben losse zomen.
Due to the acrylic yarn it's way to big now, and the sleeves have holes because the seems have gone.

Shetland Collar

Het was een tijdje rustig aan mijn kant. Sorry. Ik had een klein dipje, omdat ik aan vrij veel projecten was begonnen en niet meer wist met 'wat' ik nou bezig was. Dat duurt altijd even, net als het gat waar in ik 'val' wanneer er een project af is en ik aan iets nieuws mag beginnen.
It's been a bit quiet on my side of the blog. Sorry about that. I had a little setback, due to over 'wip'ping my self. To many projects and no clue what to knit on.
It's the same as the hole I fall into after finishing a project and I'm allowed to start something new.

Ik heb dus eerst maar eens wat afgemaakt wat te overzien was. En dat was een eigen ontwerp voor een kraagje in zwarte cashmere.
Na de Shetland Tea shawl in 2 variaties, de Shetland Sweetheart werd het nu tijd voor nog een patroon met ribbels en truelace.

So, I started on something that could be finished soon. That was my own design for a collar in black cashmere.
After the Shetland Teashawl(twice) and the Shetland Sweetheart it was time for another garterstitched and truelaced pattern.
Dit patroon is al in PDF gemaakt en zal binnenkort te koop zijn op Ravelry.
