Laminaria...

Er was eens... Lang geleden een prachtig ontwerp gesignaleerd op Knitty.
Knitty was alom bekend om intrigerende ontwerpen en oog voor detail in projecten.

Gelukkig is het in al die jaren overeind gebleven, ook en waarschijnlijk voorál na het fenomeen dat Ravelry heet.
Elk kwartaal komen er nieuwe shawls uit, nieuwe trui- en sokontwerpen en nu ook speciale projecten voor handgesponnen garens.
Vooral omdat ik zelf NIET spin, en toch wel een probleem maak van het maken van een twééde sok, te lang ben voor een trui, focus ik me op de kant ontwerpen.

Once, there was... a long time ago a wonderfull design spotted on Knitty.
Knitty is a renowned location for intriguing designs and an eye for details in projects.

Luckily it survived all the years, including or despite the rise of Ravelry, a new phenomenon.
Each quarter of the year a new set of shawls, sweater and sock designs emerge, and recently even projects especially for handspun yarns.
Because I do NOT spin yarn myself, I suffer severely from Second Sock Syndrome and I'm to tall for a sweater I focus on the lace designs.

 En omdat nu na al die jaren, bijna iedereen de Laminaria wel kent, kan ik nu wegkomen met prachtige detail foto's.

 And because the Laminaria is now well known, I can get away with some awesome detailed photographs.

 Herkent u deze nog?? Want deze is eigenlijk niet nieuw. Hij was eerst lichtblauw! Maar omdat ik lekker aan het klooien was met logo's en deze al heel lang in mijn kast ligt, was het tijd voor deze make-over.

 Do you recognize this?? Because it isn't new at all. It was previously light blue. Iceblue to be exact. But when I started working on the new logo and saw that this was still in my home, it was in serious danger of a make-over.

Dus... tijd voor een nieuwe fotosessie en om de tijd te vullen. Ik ben andere projecten die al lang op de naalden staan aan het afmaken, en dat kan nog wel even duren.. 

 So.. time for a new photosession and a bit of a breather. I'm currently finishing other projects that have been on the needles tó long. And it might take longer...

Purple Lace

Ik kreeg e-mail uit Amerika. Er was iemand die mij op Ravelry had gezien en ze kwam zelf niet aan breien toe. Of ik voor haar dan de Laminaria wilde breien. Natuurlijk!
Ze koos een verrukkelijk garen uit, Cashmere/Zijde in de meest fantastische kleur. Ik heb al eerder met deze kleur gebreidt en het is echt ongelooflijk, zo diep rijk paars ze dat garen kunnen verven.

I got e-mail from America. Someone had noticed my knitting on Ravelry, and because she was a bit too busy to knit it herself, she asked me if I was able to knit her the Laminaria. But ofcourse I could.
She chose the most awesome yarn, Cash/silk and the most stunning colour of deep purple. I've already knitted with a similar colour, and I'm still amazed how rich they can dye that yarn.

Ik heb al eerder een laminaria gebreid, eerst deze en toen de driehoekige. Deze keer was het toch anders; hij moest recht worden. En dat werd hij! Het was even opletten dat ik niet te ver doorbreide, want hij werd gespiegeld en er moest nog genoeg overblijven voor de andere helft. Na de opzet metéen begonnen met het ster patroon, toen de bloemen en de rand. Daarna de steken opgepakt en metéén weer de sterren gebreid. Zo zie je bijna niet dat er een 'naad' in het midden zit.

It is not the first time I have knitted the Laminaria, first I made this one, and recently this original one. This time it had to be a rectangled scarf. I had to monitor that I didn't knit to far, it would be knitted mirrored. After casting on, I immediately started the star pattern, then the flowers and the edging. Picking up the stitches and knitting stars rightaway, more flowers and the edging. That way you can hardly see the middle of the shawl.

Voor het eerst moest ik een beetje uitstel aanvragen op een deadline, ivm Chris. Maar hij is afgekomen en nú onderweg naar de nieuwe eigenaar. Ik ben een tikkie jaloers; het garen is ZO zacht en de kleur zó mooi. Wat een luxe...
For the very first time I had to ask for a bit more time before the deadline, due to the illness of Chris. But it was done in time and already on it's way to the new owner. I'm a bit jealous; the yarn is SO soft and the colour só pretty. What a luxury..

The Second

Op een dag kreeg ik een opdracht van WereldWol. Of ik voor haar een sjaal wilde breien in Angel Lace van The Natural Dye Studio. Dat wilde ik wel.
Ze wilde graag de Laminaria gebreidt hebben. Dat kan natuurlijk. Daarmee is er wel iets gebeurd wat ik eigenlijk niet doe: een ontwerp twéé keer breien. Nu was mijn eerste sjaal sowieso al een beetje anders omdat ik toen 3 driehoeken heb gebreidt. Deze keer werd het het originele ontwerp in lichtblauw en lichtgroen.
One day I was asked to knit a shawl for WereldWol. It was to be done in Angel lace by The Natural Dye Studio. I was game.
The design she chose was the Laminaria. Ofcourse. That meant that I was about to knit a design for the second time, that is something I hardly ever do! The first time I had added another triangle, this time it would only be the original design. In light blue and light green.

Dit is een foto waarop de goede kleuren het beste te zien zijn. Ik heb de sjaal dubbel geblockt, zodat hij helemaal symetrisch is en het beste tot zijn recht komt.
Bovendien kan je op de eerste foto zien dat ik de tussen punten ook mee geblockt heb, zodat het open patroon ook beter te zien is.
This is a picture that is the best representation of the true colours. I've blocked the shawl double, so that it would be completely symetrical. Also I could block the points inbetween, as you can see better in the first picture. That way even the open worked lace is more visible.

Ik heb een project in de steek gelaten. Letterlijk. Ik had er effe geen zin meer in. Bovendien vond ik het wel groot genoeg. Eigenlijk jammer want ik was er super enthousiast aan begonnen.
Het was een grote zoektocht naar de goede kralen en nu hij klaar is, zijn ze perfect. Yes! Abandon ship. While you still can!
I've abandoned the sinking ship. And that's a pity, because I really wanted to knit this when I started. Searching for the right beads, and in the end they're perfect...Zoals iedereen kan zien heb ik een 'liefde' voor stoelen. We hebben er best veel verschillende.
Helaas niet als bij de foto's op Knitty het bijpassende strand, deze strandstoel is het beste wat ik heb... As all of you have seen these last months, I have a thing for chairs. We've got quite a lot.
The pictures on Knitty for this shawl have a beautiful beach, I could only muster up this chair...

Deze sjaal is oorspronkelijk maar 2 driehoeken. Ik wilde een uitdaging en heb er een driehoek aangeplakt. Het was een héle klus, maar zeker de moeite waard.

Heb ik heel internet tot in Wenen gezocht naar die kraaltjes van mijn vorige log. Donkergroen, zilver aan de binnenkant, 4,5 mm en 17 gr per doosje. Kom ik uiteindelijk bij De Kralendoos terecht. Metéén 7 doosjes besteld, zo rond de 1640 stuks, en afwachten tot ze thuisbezorgd werden. Ik doe het pakketje open... hè?
Ze zijn heel anders... glanzend.... Maar wel mooi.
So, searched the internet for those beads in my last log, I even ended up in Vienna. In the end I found some darkgreen, silverinside, 4,5mm beads in Holland. Ordered 7 boxes, totalling ~1640 beads. I open up the package, and what a suprise.. they're completely different. But look how pretty...

Eigenlijk heb ik dus nu ~1640 foute kraaltjes, maar ze zijn wel veel zee-iger voor de shipwreckshawl dan die andere. Hier zit zelfs een blauwe gloed in. Dus vol goede moed een doosje of 3 op het garen gepriegeld en kijk...
Now I'm 'stuck' with all those wrong beads. I do like them, they're much more oceanic than the ones I had first. More blue. I threaded them onto the yarn, about 3 boxes to try.

Dát ziet er mooi uit! En nu in het werk zelf....

Knitty

As a lot of you know, the new Knitty Spring is online. My friend pointed me to the Aeolian Shawl, but I fell in love with Shipwreck.
Honestly: I ditched the Bleeding Hearts, it didn't turn out as I wanted it to be, I put the Fichu in hibernation and casted on immediately.
After finishing the strawberry pattern and being well on my way with the bleeding hearts (...) pattern, I found out that I had totally messed up the strawberry. Not that I couldn't do it, it was just that I had switched needles and totally forgot to finish the pattern.
Frogged a bit, than continued again with the bleeding hearts. I was knitting quite happy, so happy, I knitted to much. So frogging again, picking up and went on my way.
I'm already at the Madeira pattern. It won't go so quickly as the stitchcount is adding up.
I'll be using white frosted beads, but if I can get any other colour, blue and green, I'll be adding those too, probably. Here is comes. Pattern: Shipwreck

Na 2 projecten opzij te hebben gezet, ben ik metéén begonnen aan Shipwreck (Knitty). Ik vond het zo'n mooi patroon, al ben ik al 2x de mist in gegaan. Door een naalden wissel ben ik helemaal vergeten het aardbeipatroon af te breien, dus uithalen. Later bij de Bleeding Hearts was ik te lang doorgegaan, dus ook uit halen. Inmiddels ben ik bij het Madeira patroon aangekomen.

Nieuwe plannen.

Dit is een jurk die ik van het voorjaar gemaakt heb, de bloem bestaat uit kleine parelkleurige kraaltjes die ik er stuk voor stuk op gezet heb.
This little dress for my daughter was made this spring, the flower is made with pearl coloured beads that I embroidered piece by piece, on it.


Naar aanleiding van mijn opdracht Juni van Angsoka, ben ik dus die blokjes aan het breien. Ik liep al een hele tijd met een plan rond, en nou dat ik dat blokje gemaakt heb, weet ik hoe ik het ga doen.


Ik wil dus van een babyparasol (prenatal) het stofje er af halen, en dan een nieuw dekje breien. Ik heb al flink zitten surfen en googlen, maar nog niets gevonden. Dus.... er liggen ontwerpmogelijkheden.
Ik op Knitty kijken, en voorwaarden gelezen. Ik mag mijn ontwerp wel maken, maar niet publiceren. Hij mag niet op blog of site te zien zijn, voor dat hun bekeken hebben of ze hem publiceren of niet. Het zou tof zijn als er een Monique ontwerp op Knitty zou staan, toch? Bovendien zit ik ook nog met een sluitingsdatum voor het seizoen. Die is voor de herfst zelfs van de week al verlopen. Dus dat zou niet eerder worden dan volgend (voor-) jaar.
Ik ga dus de komende weken 'stiekum' ontwerpen en uitvoeren van een parasolletje. En dan maar hopen dat het wat wordt.

In antecipation of the June assignment for Angsoka, I was knitting blocks. For a while I was thinking about making a little sun-umbrella. I have one, I'll remove the fabric and planning to knit a new cover.
I've been surfing the net, googling pictures, but nothing there... so designing is a possibility.
I've been checking out Knitty and read the instructions. According to those, I'm not allowed to publish the result of my design on my blog or website, befóre Knitty will decide to use (or not) my design for their site. It would be nice to have a Monique-design on Knitty.
Besides, the closing date for the autumn is already passed, so it will not be done before this year is over. Spring maybe...
So, the next couple of weeks I'll be, sneaky, making, designing and knitting the darn thing. And let's hope it works.
