Endless

Vorig jaar mocht ik voor Wolhemel de Iris breien. Een prachtige rode sjaal in kidsilk van Drops. Toen ik daar mee bezig was, had mijn moeder al gezegd dat ze het wel een erg mooie sjaal vond en ze is al weg van rood.. Ik heb toen nieuwe bollen gehaald en ben een keer begonnen in de zomer. Ik wilde niet helemaal dezelfde breien, ik begon met een patroon uit Victorian Lace Today. Maar ik had er al gauw genoeg van. Ik heb op Ravelry gespeurd, het stuk weer uitgehaald en begonnen met de Wedding Ring Shawl uit Handwerken zonder Grenzen. Na 4 blokken had ik geen zin meer en ben met het ruitje van de Iris sjaal begonnen. Dat ging al wat sneller. Ik heb maar 3 bollen, dus na 13 herhalingen van het ruitje toch maar weer een rand gedaan in het eerste patroon. En ... klaar!
Ze is er erg blij mee. Last year I was assigned a shawl to knit for Wolhemel, the Iris. This beautiful red shawl in kid-silk by Drops, was very pretty in the eyes of my mother. She lóves red.. So, I bought some new balls and started of with a pattern from Victorian Lace Today. But I was soon fed up with it. Searched on Ravelry, frogged the bit I had already knitted and started on the Wedding Ring Shawl. After 4 repeats I was having enough of that too, so continued to knit some little diamonds, like in the Iris shawl. That knitted up pretty quick. I ended again with 4 repeats of the Wedding pattern, with only 3 balls it couldn't get much larger. No edging and bound off.

Sweet Sweet Shetland Shawl.

Ik ben een hele tijd geleden gevraagd om een sjaal te breien voor J. Ze gaf me de vrije hand, ik mocht alles doen/laten.
Op zich helemaal geweldig, maar toch wel lastig. Wat te kiezen? Patroon combinaties gemaakt, een opzet getekend, uren en uren aan het tekenen geweest op kleine hokjes en veel gereken om te kijken of het allemaal pastte. Toen nog proberen of het allemaal wel zou gaan met het aantal meters op de inmiddels gearriveerde streng garen: Sheherazade Tequila Sunrise van The Gossamer Web. I've been asked to knit a shawl for J. a long time ago. She gave me card blanche, I was to do what I wanted.
A great thing, but very hard to do. What to choose? I've made pattern combinations, drawn a designframe to work with, countless hours to draw the patterns on little squares to see if it all would fit within the stitchcounts. Length: 195 x 78 cmHet patroon is opgebouwd uit een brede opengewerkte rand die meteen gebreidt wordt. Dan volgen er diverse losse patronen die samen 3x herhaald worden. In het midden is dan de ierse knoop die ik verbreed heb; 3 losse pastte niet en 2 was te weinig. Dus heb ik er 3 inelkaar geschoven, en er voor gezorgd dat de meerderingen/minderingen klopten. De andere helft is meteen doorgebreidt maar enigszins gespiegeld. Er zitten ook hartjes in, een beetje mijn handelsmerk aan het worden (zie 3e foto), maar alleen op de tweede helft.
Toen alles klaar was heb ik dáárom heen een prachtige true-lace rand aangebreidt (eerste foto). The pattern for this shawl is build up by a large border, that's knitted directly. Then you get a patterncombination that is repeated 3 times. In the center of this shawl is an Irish Knot. Originally it's smaller, but would be too small, 3 separate ones didn't fit... So I crunched three together, making sure the in-decreases would work out fine.
Then the second half is knit in mirror of the first section; with one exception for the hearts (see third picture). When the shawl was done, I knitted on the beautiful edging in true lace (first picture).

Nieuwe shawl

Ik mocht voor Wolhemel een sjaal breien voor de handwerkbeurs van februari in Zwolle. Het is een Drops patroon en mede door het garen een groot plezier om te breien. Het patroon is beschikbaar via Garnstudio en het garen dus bij Wolhemel.

En hier alvast een voorproefje van een andere sjaal die BIJNA af is. Het is een eigen ontwerp en ik kwam zo'n 10 meter te kort om het laatste hoekje te breien. Ik wacht dus nu nog op extra garen uit Amerika om het af te maken. Meer hierover zodra hij klaar is...
And here a little preview of another shawl that is ALMOST done. It's my own design and I ran out of yarn about 12 yards short for the last corner. I'm waiting for yarn to arrive from America to complete it. More to come later...

Vooruitzichten.

Een nieuw jaar is een nieuw begin. Ik heb hele leuke vooruitzichten op allerlei gebieden.

Ik kijk al heel lang uit naar de release van Toy Story 3 . Eindelijk komt die uit deze zomer!
Ik vind de figuurtjes erg leuk. Ik heb diverse miniaturen van de hoofdrolspelers!

A new year, a new beginning. I have a lót to look forward too.
I´ve been waiting a long time on the release of Toy Story 3! I lóve the characters, I have some little figurines. It will be till this summer that they will tell their story though... I can't wait to hear it. Mijn broertje en zijn vrouw verwachten dit jaar hun tweede kindje. Daar kijken we erg naar uit!
My brother and his wife will be having a baby this year. We´re really looking forward to the arrival of this little child. Dan is er natuurlijk nog het nodige om naar uit te kijken op breigebied. De handwerkbeurs in Zwollywood. Eindelijk weer effe lekker voelen voordat je koopt, kleuren keuren en lekker kwebbelen met vriendinnen.
Then there´s ofcourse lots to look forward to on knitting. There will be a craftsfair in Zwolle. Touchy feely! Eyestroking colours and chatting away with friends.

In april ga ik een dagje leren Estlands Breien. Dat leer ik van CarlaM en Hilly. Als je mee wilt doen dan kan je je hier opgeven.

Ik heb ook nog 3 projecten op de dunne naalden die niet zo maar klaar zijn. Daar wil ik me wel mee bezig houden..
Met Kantwerk ging het in 2009 erg goed. Ik hoop dat die trend zich in 2010 doorzet. Het was erg fijn om mensen blij te maken met een nieuwe sjaal, jurk of muts. De site is een beetje geupdate en daar komt dit jaar vast nog veel meer bij. I´ve got 3 projects on thin needles that won´t be finished any time soon. I´d like to concentrate on those.
Kantwerk did very well in 2009, I hope that will continue in 2010. It was very pleasing to see people being happy with hand knitted shawls, a dress and a tam. The site has been updated and a lot will be added this coming year.

Dus... laat maar komen! So.... bring it on!

Celebrations!

This is my 250th post on my blog. Which will be running for 3 years next week!!!
To celebrate both facts of joy in my knitting and getting so far I got myself the book I didn't want to buy at first. But he! It's só pretty...

Dit is mijn 250e bericht op mijn blog. Bovendien bestaat hij volgende week 3 jaar!!!
Om mezelf min of meer te trakteren met deze prestatie en uiting van heel veel plezier in het breien heb ik het boek toch gekocht. Ik zou het eerst niet doen, maar ach... het is zó mooi!

Deze blog werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door verschrikkelijk veel bezoekers over de héle wereld en daarvoor: Dank je!!!!

Oh, en ik ben nog wel van plan om héél lang door te gaan!

Fifteen

Hi,
i'm off to Amsterdam tomorrow! We (mom, dad, friend-of-mom and me) are going to the Hermitage Amsterdam.
It was a part of my birthday gift from my parents to go on a daytrip!

And what do you take with you on a trip by train?? Knitting and food.
I was baking some tomatobread, the flower is grinded (or ground??) in a real mill, I thought that would be so easy to snack. I didn't have the recipe, so I went online to visit the site of Jamie Oliver in search for some help in baking your own bread. Then I saw his link to Fifteen, a teen-cook restaurant. There is one in Amsterdam too! I don't think I have the time to go and eat there, but I couldn't resist to show you some pictures from the site! Yummie.

I dó hope to have some time to go to the Afstap (the LYS for Amsterdam). I want to buy some addi's in 1,75 mm to knit a very special shawl that will be available on Ravelry (soon, I hope). And maybe some new laceyarn.

I'll tell you all about the exhibit in the Hermitage when I come back. And if the bread made it to Amsterdam....
I'm still wondering which project to take with me on the train.. so many deadlines. Maybe I'll bring two..

Going Nupps

Breien is leuk. Erg leuk. Heel erg leuk.
Laat ik eerlijk zijn: het is verslavend. Ik denk er zo vaak aan, hoe ik iets kan breien, met welk garen, hoe groot, hoe lang ik er over doe en wát ik er dan mee doe.
Uiteindelijk zit ik zelf vaak zonder, want het gaat erg goed met Kantwerk. Om het 'werk' leuk te houden heb ik natuurlijk ook zo mijn eigen projecten.
Vaak gaan ze de mist in omdat ik iets anders zie wat ook mooi is en er dan meteen mee begin.
En dat is nog geen garantie.
Neem nou White Diamonds. Dat was een sjaal geïnspireerd door een witte kantsjaal van haar.
Dus ik begin met iets wat er op lijkt en halverwege ben ik alweer afgeleid door een ander mooi patroon.

Logisch toch dat ik ze dan combineer? Na flink veel rekenen en tekenen en afkijken van de foto's ga ik aan de gang. Omdat ik al met een driehoek was begonnen was dat nog even een heel gedoe om het er tussen te passen.
Ik ben nog lang niet klaar, er staan al meer dan 450 steken op mijn rondbreinaaldje en met zo'n 88 nupps per diamant en totaal 10 diamanten op 1 rij, zit ik toch op zo'n 880 nupps in 50 pennen. Een hele klus. Maar mooi!!!
De cashmere/cotton is zo zacht, ik kan het amper wegleggen.
Knitting is fun. Good fun. Very good fun.
Oh, who am I kidding. I'm addicted! Thinking about it day and night, what to do, what to knit, how to knit it and with which yarn..
In the end I'm left empty handed, because my knit-on-commission is doing very well. And to keep the 'work' fun I do have a number of projects of my own.
For instance: I was enchanted by this pattern by her. Halfway knitting it got distracted by another pattern. In the end I combined the two.
That was quite the task, as I had already started with a triangular shape. Some calculations to fit it in were really neccesary and had to frog a bit too.
I'm not nearly done yet, with 88 nupps per diamond, and 10 diamonds total for one 'block' makes a grand total of 880 nupps. I'm only half way down the 50 row patternblock and having 450 st on my circ's takes up much time to knit even one row with nupps.
But look how it's turning out!

There are some new books that will be quite interesting to read and use.
Haapsalu Sall : a book on Estonian Lace knitting. (ook verkrijgbaar in NL)
Habu is reporting there will be a new book coming late january that uses all their yarns: Ori Ami Knits.

Is there anyone who has more books to 'report' that will be out soon?

Recently I've swapped some yarn I had for Habu Kasuri Paper Linen. I got 2 skeins, my swapmate got 2 balls of Rowan Kidsilk I had laying around. I've knitted a swatch with it on 3 mm needles. When washed it bleeded a little colour, but not much. I think I have to knit another on a bigger needlesize. I don't know whát to knit with it...
