   So little time..

Beurs van de Beurs.

Nou, zo'n Handwerkbeurs kan je behoorlijk slopen zeg! Petje af voor de standhouders; drie volle dagen en dat nog zonder voorbereiding meegerekend.

Leuk was het wel. Impulsief zijn, zoals ik ben, is erg lastig, want vóór ik de beurs helemaal over was gelopen was mijn geld eigenlijk al op. Ik had graag nog wat Habu willen kopen, Rowan bij Klazien's Kreaties, zijde bij de Belgische meneer, mooi garen bij de Zeven Katten, of nog meer Zitron van Trikoo. Ook géén Isa... huppelepup garen waarvan ik de naam niet meer weet... of een boek van Handwerkwereld.

Well, a hard day at the Craftsfair in Zwolle (NL). My compliments to the stand-runners, 3 days of hard work and even more in preparation!
It was fun. Being very impulsive, I ran out of money even before I saw the whole show! I wanted to buy a lot of things, Habu, Rowan, Silk from Belgium, Zitron, and some yarn that starts with Isa... but don't quite remember the correct name.

Spotted on the last Craftsfair, but didn't buy it then. Now, I did: Tencel, black.

De reden waarom ik zó maar door mijn budget heen was, is omdat ik niet op de beurs kon wachten.
Uit Engeland kwam namelijk afgelopen donderdag :

Dat leek me eerst wel weer genoeg stash!

De mooie sokjes? Die zijn gebreid met het garen wat ik kreeg van Karen: toe-ups voor Bridget.

Edit: Toen ik haar blog las en haar mooie blauwe garen zag, dacht ik in eens; he, zoiets had ik toch ook gekocht! Helemaal vergeten te vermelden. Bij deze dus: Zijdedroom (zijde/alpaca).

Inbetween days

Zo, nu weer tijd voor breien. Ik had al gezegd dat in de drukte rond de jaarwisseling ik wel gewoon aan het breien was. Ik kreeg een opdracht om voor iemand een kantsjaal te breien in de meest prachtige bruine Malabrigo die ik gezien heb. Ze koos voor Print O' The Wave, een kantpatroon van Eunny Jang. Voor mij een gedeeltelijke herkansing; ik heb hem 2 jaar geleden gebreid, maar dat liep niet helemaal goed af.
Deze keer ging het gesmeerd: kijk maar! Knitting time! As I've told before, around the holidays I have been knitting. Someone gave me a project to do: the Print O' The Wave Shawl by Eunny Jang. A reprise for me; as I have knitted it before with poor results.
This time it went much better, you can see for yourself...Hopelijk is ze er blij mee, hij is zo lekker zacht!

Gewonnen!

Ik heb gewonnen. Een tijdje geleden al, ik vermelde het al in december.
Ik had een prachtig gehaakt roosje gewonnen op Bloempje's blog, die kreeg ik op de 3e maandag van Januari. Het fleurde mijn dag flink op. Ik heb hem op mijn Suzy Q gespeld, dan heb ik hem altijd bij me.

I won! Not one but two prizes.
The first was a beautiful crochet-ed rose, made by Bloempje. I put it on my Suzy Q, so I have it with me all the time.

Bovendien heb ik op de blog van Karen ook gewonnen. Ze woont in Amerika en het pakket kwam gistermiddag binnen!
Een bomvol doosje met allemaal goodies. Kijk maar.
On top of that, I won a big prize on Karen's blog. She lives in America and my prize can yesterday afternoon in the mail! It was big. Take a look inside...

Het groene pakketje heeft een draadsnijder die aan een ketting kan hangen. Het blauwe kaartje heeft een button, die ook op mijn Suzy zit. De strengen wol van JL Salvia zijn prachtig en lekker zacht. Twee bollen stretchy Patons sokkenwol, een breitas en een boek. Op het bolletje van Patons zie je ook nog 2 prachtige oorbellen.

The box was filled with goodies; a knitting bag, earrings (on the ball of Patons), 2 balls of Patons Stretchy Sockyarn, 2 skeins of JL Salvia yarn (beautiful), a yarncutter pendant, a button (that's how we call it here), and a knitting book.

So happy! Thanks Bloempje and thanks Karen!

Nice to meet you

Hallo allemaal. ik heb weer internet!
Er is veel gebeurd en gedaan. Het breien gaat door, daarover later.
Onze jongste zoon, Sean, kan maar moeilijk zonder kat. Hij en zijn vader surfden elke dag op het internet op zoek naar kittens. En begin januari was het raak. Er was een kitten vrij van een week of 8. Mijn man, Sean en Bridget er heen om haar op te halen. Chris en ik zaten verdwaast op de bank; nu al? Daar waren we nog niet aan toe. Ik had een telefoontje gekregen dat er nog een was, maar die zou iemand anders ophalen. Ik zei toen tegen Johan dat hij die anders ook wel mee mocht nemen. Hij was nog onderweg naar huis met de ene, toen we telefoon kregen dat het andere kitten NIET opgehaald werd. Aangezien we bijna altijd 2 katten hebben gehad, is hij weer terug gereden en heeft de ander ook opgehaald. Zo kwam het dat we op 3 januari 2 kittens in huis hadden en een dolgelukkig kind. Inmiddels is iedereen dol op ze; ik ook. (behalve als ze in mijn vitrage hangen).
Het meisje met de witte buik is Bekkie, ze is vrij fel en laat zich moeilijk pakken (behalve door Chris).
Het jongetje is helemaal zwart en heet Ninja; hij is erg lief, knuffelig en doet stille aanvallen.
Prettig kennis te maken.

Hi everyone, my connection to the internet is active again! A lot has happened lately. Ofcourse a lot of knitting, more about that later.
Our youngest son, Sean, was very unhappy without a cat. With my husband he was cruising the net for kittens. He found one, and went with his sister and father to get it. Then we got a call that the other kitten wouldn't be picked up by the person who wanted him. So we took that one too! Hence the fact that early January we had two kittens in our little house, and 2 very happy kids. Now, after a few weeks, we all love them (except when they hang in my curtains).
The girl with the white belly is Bekkie (something like Jaws or Mouthy), she's a bit shy and doesn't want to be picked up (except for Chris, he can do anything).
The boy is black and called Ninja. He has a stealth attack, is very cuddly and so cute.

Natuurlijk slapen ze erg veel, maar meestal zitten ze achter elkaar aan.
Ofcourse they sleep a lot, but chasing is a daily routine.

The puppet is Mr. Jummie, a local tv hero.

Hello you,
it's a new year. Let's hope it's a good one.

This will be my first blogpost this year, no pictures...
My internet is down till the first week of februari, so I can only tell you what i've been doing.

I've finished my small Clapotis for Bridget yesterday.

I'm almost done with my One Baaaaaad Poncho, only the buttons (my friend wants to be able to open it).

My Frost flowers Vest is done, I'm contemplating to put in some small sleeves, or not...

The Print 'O' The Wave is doing great, the two center panels are done AND grafted. Yeah.
Now on to the edging.

2008

2008 was a variegated year. Lots of things happening; good, bad, ugly and pretty. Sad things and many happy things.

1. My husband got a new job as a truckdriver; going abroad a lot. My kids are coping with that very well, I love them to death.


2. I quit my business of garden design; no clients mean no income, no income means no advertising, no advertising brings zero clients. Hence the shut down. I was quite sad, but learned a lot.


3. I got a tenyear (vastcontract) on my new job: mailman (TNT) for 6 hours a week. I'm very happy, that leaves kids-time, hub-time, knit-time and yes, even cleaning-time.
   
4. Our pedigree-cat got lost. Probably an angry neighbour let him disappear so his cat could retire peacefully. We are on no-speaking terms now.


5. We found a little cute kitten that brightend our entire fall and winter. Unfortunately she got hit by a car and died. That hit us hard.


6. On average I've knitted 1 shawl a month this year.


7. Ravelry cost me a LOT of sleep, in a good way. Man, I'm addicted. So many good friends, lovely patterns, to-die-for-yarns, and so many forums: thanks Casey and Frecklegirl.


8. I started a new business, very small: Kantwerk.nl ; knitting on commission. First project is on the needles. (thanks). No website yet, that's under construction.


9. On the Craftsfair / Stitch'n'Bitch in Rotterdam my hubby found a goodiebag with lóts of goodies; laceweight, stitchmarkers, aranweight and lots more. Thanks Yvon and Ballee.
   
10. Last week I won a knitted rose. I love flowers and she gave some beautiful red roses away; I was so lucky to win one. Thank you Mariella.


11. Today... I won a price. I don't know what yet, it's a surprise. Thank you, Karen.


12. I was overwhelmed by Liina, how she helped me to find what I was looking for to keep me busy all of 2009 and years to come. Thanks Liina.

I'm so happy that the two things I like (knitting and internet) can bring SO many people together. I feel right at home.

Shetland Tea Shawl

Eindelijk ben ik klaar met mijn Shetland Tea Shawl. Hij is toch ietsje kleiner geworden dan ik had gedacht. Ik heb de rand iets smaller gemaakt omdat ik had ingeschat dat ik anders garen te kort zou komen. Maar dat viel uiteindelijk erg mee. Kerstmorgen heb ik hem geblocked, in het morgen zonnetje. Finally I finished my Shetland Tea Shawl. It's become a bit smaller than I anticipated, I shrunk the edging a bit, because I thought I'd run out of yarn before finishing. That didn't happen. Christmas morning I blocked it, the sun was shining over it...

And now for the good news....

I want to thank everyone for all of you kind words, after the death of our little kitten, and my bad back. It really helped to ease the pain.

And now for the good news.
For quite a while I've been searching the net for a knitting book. Of course, it's one that's out of print, hard to get, and nowhere to be found...
There are only a few people (in Holland) that I know off, who dó have it. She's one of them. She's also one (not from Holland)
There was also a site that displayed some knitted patterns from the book in question. I emailed with the moderator, she told me she had bought her copy in Germany. Tried to get one, but already sold out.
The moderator mailed me later that she'd heard of a lady that had 3 copies available. She mailed her, but never heared from that woman again...

The thing got a bit obsessive... The more I got zero on request, the more I wanted it!


So, I sat down, started to think about it.
If you sit close to the fire, you'll be quite warm...
After some good searching I found someone in ...Estonia. Her name (on Ravelry) is Rees.
She'd knitted a beautifull Estonian Lace shawl.
I dared to try.
I asked if there would be ANY way that she could search for me in the land of lace knitting.
She would, she did and SHE FOUND!
And, most friendly of all: she bought it for me, send it to me and today I am the proud owner of....
Pitsilised Koekirjad.

It's not the original cover of the well known book, but the patterns (all 211 of them) are all there. Including the charts, the abbreviations and the year of print: 1978!! The most amazing patterns in lace, with nupps, without nupps... I cannot read the language, but a picture says more than a thousand words (or charts...). hahhahaa.

Thank you very much, Rees, for your kind actions to help me in my search. (ravelry-link).
I'm very happy, and will be trying out several of the patterns, hoping to make very original knitted things.
